    Arrow Speedtest request: Interoute vs. Akamai

    Hello everybody!

    I would like to request everyone to participate in my comparison.

    I compare the CDNs of interoute versus Akamai and versus a normal dedicated server located in Germany (Hosteurope).

    Here are the files:

    Interoute:

    http://del.interoute.com/?id=908fce4...ivery=download

    Akamai:

    http://a23.g.akamai.net/7/23/2740/00...eaver4TBYB.exe

    Hosteurope:

    http://ftp.hosteurope.de/mirror/ftp....8.1.13.src.rpm

    Thank you!!

    P.S. For me it is also very very interesting to know the peak (!) not just the average!

    Thank you!

    From Amsterdam:

    Interroute: 985K/sec stable
    Akamai: 1.44M/sec stable
    Hosteurope: 1.1 - 1.4M/sec going up and down

    The main advantage of a CDN is that speeds will be good for everybody, regardless of where they are located. Hosteurope might be fast for me since I am close, but it will not be for somebody in, say, south america.

    I always use a downloadmanager for testing, so it usually pushes the full speeds.

    Amsterdam, 100mbps connection:
    Code:
     Interoute: 8438KBps (to small for testing, speed was still going up)
     Akamai: 7912KBps (to small for testing, speed was still going up)
     HostEurope: 11900KBps (full 100mbps connection)

    Very interesting are especially real cable or DSL connections (testing from end-customer perspective)! Thanks!

    From Romania I managed to cap out my connection at 600kB/s to all three of the links, so not much help from me .

    Peak:

    Interoute = 751 kbps
    Akamai = 10.6 mbps (inaccurate)
    HostEurope = 612 kbps

    I can give you a more accurate reading for Akamai if you post a download link for a larger file. It went *zip* as soon as I clicked the link.
