Unhappy

Please have mercy on me...

...I'm not a webmaster and don't even know the difference between Windows and Unix. But I'm having a social networking site developed for me, and my programmer is doing it in ASP.NET. Then I have an existing blog, written in PHP, that needs to go into the same site/domain name as the social networking site. So I need to have a site that can have both ASP.NET, and PHP.

The current hosting that I have can't host a site like that. Would you please tell me which hosting companies can? This one little thing is setting me back two weeks already, because I don't know enough to find this stuff out!

Please help...

Did you tell the guy to do it in .NET?
But anyway, looks like you will need a Windows host. One that has ASP.NET & PHP.

Oh, and no need to be sad baby-bubble.

No I didn't tell him to do it in .NET. He said that would be the best for this site -- it's a rather involved social networking site. He said that MySpace is done in ASP.NET.

Anyway, I just talked with someone at RackSpace who said that PHP needs Linux. So I can't have them (ASP.NET & PHP) on the same website, right?

Myspace is a horrible example, filled with bugs and issues.

No, PHP does NOT *need* Linux.
http://www.php.net/manual/en/install.windows.php

But I would say it runs better on Linux.

You've been given a lot of misinformation. Any language would suffice, whether it's .NET, PHP, Java, Ruby, Pike, etc.

All depends on the programmer.

You can have both .net and php websites running on the windows server without any issues. We provide the same setup for many of the clients. Also, there is more support available for php on linux when compared to windows. However, it executes the same on windows as well as linux machines.

.NET is a very powerful technology and it will depend on your programmer how he develops it. You need not worry about the same.

Cheers,

Strange, most hosts should have the software to handle what you need. Have you searched the offers section?
