I can't stand it when members of WHT contact you to sell...
Well, I just received an instant message over MSN of a WHT member trying to sell me their services and i'll let you be the judge of the convo. How many members on WHT constantly get contacted by other members on WHT trying to sell their services? I like to note I have never contacted this person before...

It isn't against the rules to AIM people offering services, just to PM them(?).

Few things more amusing than a "host" that claims to be in business for 5-7 years but with a site still under construction .
I get IM SPAM about once every two months. Nothing enough to worry about yet.If you have to operate your company behind the scenes or under a fake name, maybe it's time to leave the industry and start something fresh.

The rule does not specifically say which way of selling your services is banned but the rule states "If you SPAM our members in any manner, your account will be disabled. Do not contact anyone to suggest your product or service who is not explicitly expecting you to contact them from an advertising forum post. If you glean information from anywhere other than the advertising forums and use that information to contact someone and present an offer, it's SPAM and it will affect your WHT account standing." The bottom line is its spam and not wanted!

What I thought was funny is they couldn't pin point how many years they have been in the business. I personally could easily tell you the exact day we started but I guess its because we haven't been in business for "5-7" years.

How can WHT enforce such a rule as not being allowed to spam over AIM?
Best thing to do is just to block them

That is rediculus. IM spam is worse than email or PM spam in my oppinion. I would report them that is getting into what I view as a personal time not meant for spam and forcing to be live chat and not allowing it to be an option.

Though WHT don't allow this type of SPAM, I think there no good way to block or report MSN/AIM spam.
Why not opt-in the "need authorization for buddy add requests"? It's the easiest way to deny them.

The problem here is that if you are getting spammed, then so are other users who ask for advice in the open forum, but don't realize that receiving solicitations via any means (outside the requests forum) is against the rules.
I know this has happened several times just here recently, based on what was said in the thread. "I just received a good offer, I'm looking into it" etc. ..... very NOT cool ...... the point of this board is to be able to help people without them being pressured and piked to. When they are ready to buy, they will step up and buy. But to have hosts spamming people?? -- just plain-old sucks.
I don't know what the solution is. Do we need to swoop into every new thread now and caution posters that it's against the rules to be contacted, and to please report any host who does so?? I mean, just how excessive do we have to get?? I don't know the answer myself, I'm just tossing random thoughts out there. *sigh*
Just my humble opinion as a non-spammer!

I think it is a spam and as such should be reported. One spammer banned, 10 spammers banned - eleventh would think twice.
It would be a good practice to ask person first, like "I would like to offer you our hosting services. Are you interested in it?" and if person answers "yes" - then it's ok, it's expressed agreement to receive ads. Othewrise - spam and we should fight spammers with the harshest means available.

If you are going to have your IM details in your profile and in your ads, you should expect that all types will try to contact you if they think it is worthwhile. Not only members, but thousands of guests who can see your posts.
