Five-seat concept car runs on air

Five-seat concept car runs on air
By Roger Harrabin
Environment analyst, BBC News
The Aircar can be filled with air in just three minutes
An engineer has promised that within a year he will start selling a car that runs on compressed air, producing no emissions at all in town.
The OneCAT will be a five-seater with a glass fibre body, weighing just 350kg and could cost just over £2,500.
It will be driven by compressed air stored in carbon-fibre tanks built into the chassis.
The tanks can be filled with air from a compressor in just three minutes - much quicker than a battery car.
Alternatively, it can be plugged into the mains for four hours and an on-board compressor will do the job

I first saw the www.theaircar.com website back in 1998-1999. It looks slicker now. For the past 10 years the promoter has been trying to get financing. I've never seen a video of a working prototype.
According to the BBC story: "Mr Negre has been promising for more than a decade to be on the verge of a breakthrough. Independent observers are more convinced this time because he recently secured backing from the giant Indian conglomerate Tata to put the finished touches to the engine."

I guess that's why it's a "concept" car.

I don't think the air compressor is in the car? I see that there is an on board air compressor, though it's an optional. The car can already be fueled by compressed air.

Wouldn't mind 120mpg even if it wasn't the fastest car in the world.
Imagine if it become a reality and is as good as they make out, the economical and political changes would be major.

So it has a 4 cylinder Air Hogs engine?
If it was priced at around $4-5K then I'd be really interested just like that Indian Tata Nano car a few months back that they said was going to be $2500. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNew..._name=&no_ads=
For $2500 I'd be stupid not to buy it and use it around town and to drive to work.
Unfortunately it won't happen in North America anytime soon. Too much money is made by the gov from fuel taxes. Just like in Canada the gov. bitches about cigarettes and how much it costs the tax payers in medical bill per year, yet they sill allow the sale of cigarettes.

Agreed the same thing is said here. who benefits from the taxes on gas and cigs? The government. I still believe if they could control marijuana like they cigarettes and gas it would be legal in the states.
It all boils down to money money money. Sad thing is if there was no money the people bitching loudest would be the ones with the most. The rest of us get by and would get by then.
I hope this car works out and spoils all the fun for the big boys.
