Want to live to be 800?
There is now a way to extend the lifespan of organisms so that humans could conceivably live to be 800 years old. In an amazing development, scientists at the University of Southern California have announced that they've extended the lifespan of yeast bacteria tenfold -- and the recipe they used to do it might easily translate into humans. It involves tinkering with two genes, and cutting down your calorie intake. Tests have already started on people in Ecuador.

I suppose the only people who will live to find out if it works are the ones who have it done. I'll take my chances!

800? That's a long time, it has me debating. But, I would probably take the chance as well.

The real question is... does it slow the rate at which your body starts to deteriorate... would you just keep getting more and more wrinkly till you just become one giant wrinkle...

I wonder how many livers I would go through by then. And if people would live to 800, I wonder when the Rolling Stones would FINALLY call it quits.

I wouldn't mind living to be 800, who much would $1000 CD be at end of 800 years with 4.5% interest compounded daily?

I hate to bump it like this but it is incredible to think about. I'm currently studying medicine so we discuss advancements like this all the time. People in their 90's now were born during a time where 60 was a normal time when many people died. Now a days, people in advanced cultures are often living into their 90's.
As hard as it is to believe that we will be living longer, it is a fact that (especially for today's younger generations) the average life span with soar past 100. Its incredible to watch all these developments. Even as our bodies adapt to survive longer, we'll soon have more technology to sustain and/or cure those who have disease's that we currently classify as chronic and deadly.
