    Post Which DC?

We are starting a new business, we need good support; rock solid hardware..

We have a list of DCs. Can u give advices? Which should we select?

We are thinking one of them:

    softlayer.com
    layeredtech.com
    caro.net
    xlhost.com

We want dual quad core Xeon series..

I'd try out Softlayer's latest DC in Seattle, or Caro from that list.

I've been using Softlayer for about 2,5 years, I think I have only one
cut for a few minutes and after that they respond without problem
to my ticket asking them to reduce the feed due to their TOS and
then, the discount was made without problems.

Besides that I never had any problems with them.

    - network is ok, I purchase a 100Mb port and the bandwith is available,
    - their private network is great, nice Web VPN Gateway, also used to have
a 20Gb NAS, also the IPMI card helps a lot, so you don't have to wait or depend
for somebody to hard restart your server, you can do it with the IPMI program
    - SL Control Panel is very good
    - Support was very good, but lately you have to get a good technician to get
an excellent response to a question/problem, level1 response is not so good
    - Deployment time, they say 4 hours, but in 2 you have a running box with
all you need installed, and tested hardware.

    - I owned 2 servers at Dallas,TX DC and never had any problems

Here's a ping to google from my SL box at Dallas:
    PING google.com (64.233.187.99) 56(84) bytes of data.
    64 bytes from jc-in-f99.google.com (64.233.187.99): icmp_seq=0 ttl=248 time=23.8 ms
    64 bytes from jc-in-f99.google.com (64.233.187.99): icmp_seq=1 ttl=248 time=25.8 ms

    - LayeredTech, I have a friend who does video streaming, and never had any
problems, I think the only issue with him was the deployment time,
he has to write them several times to install it fast.

    - Caro.net I don't know them, but if they have something to do with cari.net then
    just stay away !

maybe you can try SL at Seattle and post about how it worked =P !!

    good luck !!

Caro and Cari are totally separate.

I guess Softlayer started offering their services in February or March 2006. Hardly you are using SL for about 2.5 years.

I was a Softlayer customer from June 9, 2006 until January 9, 2008. No way Softlayer had just one data center wide outage. There were several downtimes in the period as well serious NAS issues.

I highly recommend Softlayer and I'm sure SL don't need someone trying to hide the facts.

    PS:
January 25, 2006 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web hosting provider SoftLayer Technologies (softlayer.com) announced on Wednesday it has launched its operations and sales to the public with 1,000 servers ready for immediate deployment. SoftLayer offers on-demand bundled IT services to SMBs, hosting resellers and integrators.

Tailormadeservers.com in colo4dallas have excellent support and uptime. No server management though.

    darkwinter,

Honestly, the best way to get an idea of where you should host is to do your own search instead of asking for advice. I don't mean to offend anyone, but you will be better served getting feedback from customers. Search for reviews
