Total Newbie...suggestions?

Hello all,

As a disclaimer, I am totally new at this, so please bear with me.

I was recently referred to this site by a friend of mine. I have just purchased my own website using godaddy.com and I would like some suggestions as to what the next steps I need to take to make my dream-site become a reality.

Here's the details:

*Private site (very few members...less then 100)
*I want to run vBulletin software
*Ability to upload pictures and such
*No real budget...just something "fair".

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Cheers,
Sean

Welcome to WHT!

Did you just buy a domain name at GoDaddy, or web hosting as well? If just a domain name, then take a look in the Shared Hosting Offers forum and I'm sure you'll find what you need.

OK, how are you going to make the site private? I would reccoment using htaccess files.

Not even necessary. First off, it takes a long time for a site to get recognized by search engines, and even when that happens, vBulletin lets you keep your forums private.

Well, private in the sense it's invite only.
The other sites I've been to have a login/password pop-up screen before you get to the page.
I guess when I say "private", that's what I am meaning.

Do you mean that you purchased a domain name at godaddy? Your "details" read like you're looking for hosting. So I'm a little confused.

Of course, I am a founding member of the great State of Confusion.

BTW .... Welcome to WHT!

You are correct.
Domain name purchased @ godaddy.
Looking for hosting but I think I found what I'm looking for.
Thanks for all the help, everyone!
