    Sleeping Processes

How do I get a list of just the sleeping processes on a Red Hat server?

    from the command line:
    Code:
    [email protected]~ ps awx
The 3rd column shows the process status. Anything marked S is sleeping.

    eg.
    Code:
    [email protected]~ ps awx
    19908 ? S 0:00 /usr/libexec/courier-authlib/authdaemond

What are the sleeping processes you're talking about, and how many do you see?

If they're from Apache, just go edit the httpd.conf and edit the Timeout to a lower value.

In top, we were seeing 150+ sleeping processes. We were more curious to see what there. The ps awx helped.

Regarding the Timeout value, would this just allow the process to die faster and not sleep as long? Sound obvious, but would rather ask and make sure. Also, what would be the ideal setting for the timeout value?

    Thanks!
