Dedicated Game Servers Hosts?

Anyone know of any good dedicated game server hosts? any reviews of anyone? Ive been thinking of doing a game server, but information seems to be lacking about hosts.

Personally, I like my servers to be somewhere in Texas, it's in the middle of the U.S. and everyone gets around the same latency! And what game are you looking into getting a dedicated server for?

Thanks,

Your question is a bit broad but from what I'm guessing you're wanting a dedicated server that is designed for gaming. I would also recommend www.colocrossing.com or www.theplanet.com for a dedicated box, but if you just want one game server hosted for you, there are a number of good companies out there depending on your budget.

Are you looking for a dedicated server? Or are you looking for a game server on a shared box? How much support are you looking for? do you want a fancy control panel or just have it setup for you on the nitty gritty and roll with it?

What game are are you looking for? Some games can only be run on certain IPspace (read BF2 ranked).

hmmm idk didnt think there was much difference.. i always figured game servers were their own box. considering ive never had a game server probably tons of support. and a control panel better than helm would be nice (i dont care for helm that much) and whatever game is popular at this point.

That makes a little more sense now.

Your original message made it sound like you were seeking a hosted game server for yourself and friends to play with.

What you're actually looking for is a dedicated server that you'll use to host games on. You need to decide whether you want to proceed with a Linux distribution or if a Windows Server 2003 setup would work better.

Next, what games are you looking to host? How many clients/servers do you desire to fit onto one box? Figure out those answers and then that will lead us into server specs.

When it comes to control panels, etc I believe there are a couple on the market that do it all. I know TCAdmin is usually a main recommendation here although I've never used it myself.

Keep posting up your feedback as the replies should help others with the same questions.

When you purchase just a game server it is normally shared with other game servers on a box, unless you want to pay $100/month for a server with it's own cpu, but even those have at least one other game server on the same box.

You might want to find out what game you like to play best, then take a look around for companies that host that game for the price you're looking for. Make sure to also get a test server before purchasing.

Edit//Mekhu I believe he's looking to purchase, not host, since he's looking for tons of support since he has never had a game server before.
