    Help: Keybo rd M lfunction

My keyboard A character simply refuses to work.[except when used with Shift pressed]

I have tried updating drivers but it just doesnt work. I even opened up the keyboard and cleaned the insides. I am an expert in keyboard cleaning...my last keyboard lasted for 7 years

I tried the Accessibility OnScreen Keybord but even in that the A key is dead.

This is a new LogiTech key board and with the above result from the OnScren Keybord Iam guessing it is not malfunction of the keyboard hardware.

Anyone know how to fix this ?

Do you have any guarantee left? You could go back to where you bought it and ask them to check it and if possible get it repaired or get a new one.

If you tried the onscreen keyboard and it had the same problem....

Well I guess I don't know what to do. Good luck on this (very weird) problem...

It is about a year old Intel Server board with P4 3GHz HT

Thank you all for trying to help....the problem got solved after I cleaned up. I was trying out a few SWs last night and one of them must have corrupted something.

Now I can say aaaaaaaaaaaaa and AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA again

Actually my brother had the same problem with his laptop. It ended up being a computer virus but he just took the easy way out and formatted the whole thing.

Get a new keyboard and try that. Or plug your current one into a different computer and see if the problem repeats. Or boot off an OS disc and see if the problem is still there. Or see if it's still there when you're in BIOS somehow.

If not even the onscreen keyboard works, there may be something wrong with how your OS handles keyboard interrupts (not an expert on all of this, I've never seen this before). You can try:

    1) A different keyboard
    2) If your keyboard's PS2, a USB one (or vice-versa)
    3) As awatson mentioned, boot a (Linux?) LiveCD and see if the problem persists

Best of luck and let us know what you find out.

Glad to read it got sorted out. I wonder how many people read this post?
If you have to operate your company behind the scenes or under a fake name, maybe it's time to leave the industry and start something fresh.
