any trustworthy/decent host or all they all shady as hell

i am willing to pay a good amount of money for a host that's run by decent people. i've been with a few hosts now and they all seem so friggin shady. i just want good customer servcice and to not get ripped off. does this even exist?

note: i'll be running invision power board on a shared server.

if anyone can suggest a hosting company actually run by decent people and not rats i would greatly appreciate it.

thanks

What problems did you have with your previous hosts?

Some hosts are shady, and some aren't you have to find the ones that aren't But I too am curious, what happened at your old host?

Thanks,
Nick Kitmitto

I've been hosting IPB on namecheap and apparently I am pleased with their hosting. They price their hosting packages well and they have superb customer support too. There's not much downtime and they manage those servers quite efficiently. If you aren't sure, you can always email their customer support for more information.

They have 14 days guarantee back cash if you're not satisfied with their hosting.

How big your forum is? Posts, members, users online (average/peaks)?

Google is your friend as is the search feature here.

Once you narrow your list of hosts that you want to consider do a search here for negative reviews, then find the rep or owners handle and do a search on that to see what other posts they have made and get a feel for what kind of person they are. They may be a good host but the person may have displayed other traits in other post you do not like, at least see they somehow come across as a decent human being in public.

Then do a google search on the host see what others outside of WHT are saying about them.

Before you sign up ask them how old they are, how long they have been in business and see about their contact details real addresses phone numbers etc. Run a whois on the domain name and see how long it has been registered and if the contact info matches. See if they have a company forum or blog read it to get a feel for how they treat customers.

After all that is is still a crap shoot but you have at least narrowed the gap somewhat.

one host, my domain expired and they snatched it up w/o warning. they gave me no email to say "hey, your domain is expiring" or anything. i've also had billing issues with this same host.

the others were also just so lack luster in their customer support, like they didn't really care and as long as they had my money they were getting the best of me.

Well one hosting company I had been with for most of a decade was Adgrafix.com later renamed as Hosting.Com, their servers seemed never down when I was with them. Fascinating uptime. They are run by homo sapiens not rats/mouse and did offered support through phone as well. You may want to take a look.

Have left them for sometime now as I need servers in Singapore instead of USA, but the fantastic services and uptime still remains, remembered them very fondly.

1) You can register the domains on your own from namecheap or godaddy

2) You can pay monthly to check webhost's support/service

Nothing like stealing a domain from a customer to boost those approval ratings.

I think most hosts are better than this, and many will provide you with good, honest support. WHT reviews - and the responses to them both by the hosts being reviewed and by the community - are your friend.

and this is what it has come to... very very sad...

Hello klh149, alot of great, reliable providers out there that do business the right way.

Look at companies like pair, bluefur, digitallyjustified, downtownhost, clook, medialayer, httpme, dotable, techark, etc, etc, etc (I have missed many I am sure)...

stay away from the marketing driven BS out there and you will find companies that value their customers and will bend over backwards to accomodate their client base...
