Cliffsupport.com and Platinumservermanagement delivered good work for us in the past. Note that PSM only supports cPanel servers.

I would strongly recommend www.got-management.com and www.servaxnet.com. We have used both extensively and are very satisfied with their performances.

Are any of these companies proactive. I know most server management companies are reactive only when asked to do something.

    Just curious.

mostly comes down to pro-active server monitoring, if a process goes down they work on it; what else would you expect?

You're wrong there. Not all of the companies listed in this thread are proactive. As a matter of fact, PSM is not.

got-management.com and servaxnet.com are both proactive.

PSM does indeed a very limited server-monitoring, but they will request reboots if the server is completely down and monitor if it comes back. This is pro-active as you would not need to create a ticket for it.

I guess we just have different ideas of what 'proactive' means. I don't take monitoring into account, but rather more serious issues.

No we don't but it is also a form of pro-active, as everything done at a server without you asking for it IS pro-active, i am in no way saying this would be enough, but then, i would not leave these tasks up to an external company anyways.

well "down" situations are only 1 area of server management. Security (ie scans or checks) and other parts like Mail (spam checks or abuse) are other areas I have internal staff looking over.

You could be having server issues and not have any of the key services down.

Obviously the cheap providers will not provide this type of hand holding but if the servers are mission critical then spending the extra on support is not out of the question.

Monitoring and reacting is just that... RE-active. If you get a notice that your server is down that is in no way by my term pro-active. Maybe you are comparing it too you having to be reactive or proactive. But being that our parent company is an MSP we believe in a stricter use of the term.

What would a good dedicated server management/security plan cost per month? Could the client be clueless about servers and be safe with a server management service? I know a few clients that need dedicated servers but have no idea what it involves.

I am a bit curious as to why are you requesting administration companies when Nick H posts administration services, and you have server administration in your signature. Do you resell it?

I recently acquired a position at Peerless Machines, after the original post date. Thanks for all of your input.
