Xcache vs. Eaccelerator
Hello All,
I have been using eaccelerator for a while now and the performance increase is great. I heard of Xcache as well and was wondering if anybody has experience with it vs. Eaccelerator. Just trying to optimize my Gallery2 install the best possible way..thanks for your input!

Install both and run your own benchmarks to see which works better for your particular application. Based on my results I would say xCache will be slightly faster.

Based on my personal experiences, XCache does indeed seem to run faster.

Thanks layer0
Just got done installing xcache and I must say it is faster for me!
My page load times went from around .5 secs with eaccelerator on a 20 image gallery2 page to around .3 secs with xcache!
just when I though it couldn't get faster...i love it!

It fully depends on the application. Some applications run faster with eaccelerator, some run faster with xcache. Heck, some run faster with NO accelerator..weird right?

Standing to my own test and experience xcache is a lot faster with vbullettin for example. I really can notice the difference simply browsing the vbullettin forum i run on a dedicated quad core server.
Xcache unfortunately tends also to be a bit buggier, so your mileage may vary.
For example I've noticed some strange behaviour with xcache + wordpress (some code - like the tag cloud widget - freezes, meaning it won't update when you publish a new blog post, thus losing interactivity), while eaccelerator performs overall better.
Both xcache and eaccelerator works well as zend modules on standard cpanel apache, where you can't / won't disable the zend memory manager/optimizer, and other eventual stuff depending on that like ionCube loader. This is a big plus compared to other competing software (like apc)."I want" never gets ...

I've always really stuck with eAccellerator on cPanel servers and have only recently started using Xcache with Lxadmin.
From these results it definatley sounds like something else I need to add onto my list!

Xcache has a more active support forum and an admin panel that provides useful info.
eAccelerator and Xcache both segfault under high load with gallery2 and Drupal, at least:

I use APC, which is going to be included in php6. It was faster than eAccelerator for me on: joomla site, vBulletin site (200+ simultaneous users).

For the ones mentioning xCache faster than eAccelerator - Do you have benchmarks which show the speed increase? I have yet to see any benchmarks which show such an increase from the php accelerator let alone 10-15% from eAccelerator->xCache
Heres some real world examples on a vBulletin install -> https://secure.admingeekz.com/benchm...celerators.txt
The first is with no accelerator, the second with eAccelerator, the third with xCache, the fourth with APC and the fifth was after we optimized the server (Optimized apache, dropped un-needed modules, kernel) the optimized one was using eAccelerator with content caching.Server Management - AdminGeekZ.com

I'll see if I can find the time to test again later today. I believe one of the apps I originally tested was CuteNews.

I've seen Eaccelerator work really well, so I've stuck with that.
Hey Mikey likes it!
