Free DNS monitoring service?
Any recommendations for a free service to monitor DNS servers and make sure they are up and reporting correct results? I use montastic.com and unialert.com for other services, but they don't do DNS.

Thanks for the suggestion. I took a look. It's good, but not what I'm searching for. I'm hoping to find a service that will email me if my nameservers go down.

Oh sorry, I didn`t read the post properly. Thought you were after dns/network tools.

You could always look at it from another angle.
It might be cheapest to buy third party dns services from a reliable provider. Some of them are very cheap. That way you wouldn't have to worry about it at all and get better performance to boot.edgedirector.com

I run my own nameservers. I find it much faster to edit text files (named.conf, etc.) than to use the web interfaces I've seen at third party dns providers.
But it looks like basicstate.com will do what I want. Why didn't you say so?

@twva
Hmm. Apparently not -- it just monitors http and https.
The testing process includes dns resolution. If the test fails at the point of dns resolution, the alert will show that. The alert actually shows at which stage of a complete test pass a failure occurs. We even clock the time for each stage, we just don't show it in the reports.

I can't point you to the exact rule numbers, but that is my understanding.edgedirector.com
