Does any one have tips on the Plesk migration tool. I need to migrate all the data from one server to another. Both are at different hosting companies. Both are running Fedora with Plesk. Any would be most appreciated.
Kinda off topic for the post in general, but I believe for the cost of an unlimited domain license they should include more tools. for one a backup and restore. When I was using Plesk, you had to go buy add-ons by third party manufacturers like 4psa to do basic tasks that the other control panels all support. Thats just unacceptable.
I've migrated all data (except OS, obviously) from a physical server to another, from a VPS to a physical server & vice-versa a lot of times using PMM since it's first release and never encountered any problem! Using PMM is is very intuitive, no mysteries: simply upload the Plesk Migration Agent from your new server to the old and follow the steps you will see. But note: PMM migrates a lot of Plesk trash. Just because this actually I'm migrating with all control panels using the data stored in my external backup server, in New York (BQBackup) and I'm really very happy with this process: high speed migration and no trash moved from a server to another...I'm Plesk user since it's first version (setup lots of shared websites using command line) and I consider PMM creme de la creme but I'm no more using it...
I think I am going to try the P.M.M tool I am getting lost in the Plesk migration tool. Thanks The Rev.
Jump please to swsoft website, download Plesk admins-guide.pdf for your Plesk version and read the chapter titled "Using Plesk Migration Manager". Then follow all steps shown in the chapter and that is all: you are done!
The only circumstance where I've seen it not work is if your trying to go from FreeBSD to Linux. The workaround is to enable root login in ssh (on the BSD box as it's disabled by default) but it might take awhile to figure that out depending on your level of technical experience.
