    host gator ad's

Im sitting here looking at the HostGator ads on WHT.....

"Will work for beer" Gator voice text box says this and has a beer in it.

"$2,500 Reward, and the gator is drinking a beer and has beer all around him.

is this how the ad is suppose to be or did it get hacked? Im wondering why a hosting company would include beer in there ads if its not been hacked. Doesn't seem very professional to me.

It's because some hosting company's are not ran by people that have no personality nor life.

Some of them...like to have you know....fun? bring a bit humor in to the mix?

Hostgator is an excellent host but web hosting needs to be taken seriously. Web hosting is something that, to a more extreme, banks, business and sometimes even government agencies rely on. In that case, using beer to attract customers is tacky, and very unprofessional.

I don't see them trying to attract customers with beer.... just employees.. I must have hit a 404 somewhere.

Yea, It's unfortunate, thats how the ad is supposed to be.

By some of the comments floating around these forums, looks like ALL they do is drink beer and take care of no issues

Well, it sure helps them select the employees that can fit in their group. Seeing how they don't hire telecommuters, personalities will meet and possibly collide. If they're the kind of fun bunch who don't fear drinking some light alcoholic beverage from time to time, they'd better say so.

Hiring the wrong kind of people would not serve anyone any purpose.

Nothing wrong with hiring alcoholics ldcdc

I totally get your point, but I think the ad is that way just because they are having problems finding people and want to catch more attention

It has done exactly what they had hoped. Got peoples attentions, and caused a bit of emotion to get people to talk about it, which in turn is advertising them more.

all in all, hostgator has won.

In my opinion, they should have used tequila instead of beer, just kidding... Now
that would have been unprofessional. It got people's attention, so I can only say
    kudos to Hostgator.

More hosts need to think outside the box and take a few risks.

You know what the messed up part is? I'm in the process of buying one of the more popular bars in Houston as an investment. The plan is to make it the official hostgator bar with employees receiving 50%+ discounts. We have a nice discount planned for hg customers as well.

Having a cool hang out for employees to go to after work can only be a good thing in building better team work. Were a pretty close group.

I only drink maybe once a week but man I'm starting to feel like an alcoholic with the beer ads and becoming a bar owner.

Wow, that's a great idea! A place where employees can really get to know each
other and "bond." Relaxed and happy people equals good business.

Let us know how that goes, ok?

The bar idea sounds good. Ive done that with some of my employees, throwing a party and providing the liquor and beer. Was a nice bash and no one puked which was a plus. I even let them build a fire on my porch.... sounded like a good idea at the time, alcohol does that LOL (porch is fine btw)

I think the ads are great. It gives a sense that of the closeness, fun-loving, light-hearted atmosphere to attract like-minded employees.

As for their ads targeting customers, well, HostGator isn't really trying to get the government and large commercial clients. They're targeting the hobbyist webmaster, some small business, the programmer in need of massive web space and bandwidth and the like.

In terms of advertising, I'd have to say I'm most impressed by (in this order): HostGator, Site5 Internet Solutions, GlowHost.com, DreamHost and PoWWeb. As far as who I'd actually host with, it's definitely not PoWWeb or any Endurance International-owned brand. I detest the company vehemently.

    Cheers,
    Doug
