Which server is more powerful of these servers?

    Hello,

Can you please tell me which server is more powerful:

    (1)

    4GB DDR2-667 RAM
    3 500GB SATA hard drives
Intel Q6600 Core 2 Quad CPU
    3ware Raid Controller (RAID 5)

    (2)

    4GB DDR2 PC5300
Dual CPU + Quad Core XEON E5310 (8 cores total)
    2 160GB 7200RPM SATA / 8MB Cache hard drives

    Thanks.

#2 definitely! That CPU will outperform the core2quad anyday AND it's a more server oriented CPU.

It'd be a good setup if you replace #2 with faster hard drives. SAS hdd for instance would be nice!

I think 1 with a RAID 10 array would be a good route. In practice 2 has more cpu power but in reality you'll hit a physical cap on the disk speed long before you hit the cpu max in a typical webhosting environment.

The 2nd one is more powerful, but if you dont have a big... big project use the 1st one

    #2 has better CPU
#1 has good CPU performance, and good HDD performance (RAID-5)

    i would pick #1

The Q6600 is considered first generation of the "q" line of Intel processors. The second option (Server) provides (If I read it right) a dual CPU machine versus the single (Option 1) machine.

The motherboard in the second one is more than likely a much heartier board offering better reliability and speed (Higher quality components) but it really comes down to the specific parts (Planar, memory (Type)) and ultimately who built it =)

Option 2 is the winner here.

With those hard drives, CPU is not much of a problem for a regular hosting server. You should consider some SCSI or SAS drives.

You guys are a lifesaver. I was going to choose #1 while #2 is $100 cheaper.

In that case, you can cram more of the poor bastards on the 1TB raid5 array on server #1
