Hi,

I am not sure why servage.net is in your list... since medialayer and percisioneffect.com are on your list... seems like you are looking for reliable and non-oversold hosts, so I think you could choose from medialayer or percisioneffect.

Good luck.

I hope you will find this response helpful, in that it will help other people narrow down what host will be right for you.

Firstly, you ask for mod_rewrite and .htaccess support. This itself limits you to using Apache (although commercial IIS alternatives are available for rewrite). You have also asked for Telnet, this would limit you to a Windows server. Furthermore, you want a control panel. The control panels that work on Windows are all (I think) designed for IIS only. I think you need to drop the Telnet requirement as it's Windows only.

I think in order for you to find a host that meets your needs, you need to go for a Linux host running Apache. As you don't want cPanel, this will turn you towards either Plesk, Ensim or H-sphere which are now all owned by SW-Soft or DirectAdmin.

As for the hosts that timed out when you tested their service, I would contact the host. You might find that they don't have their Email / FTP available through their domain. It might be a case of mail.domain or smtp.domain so you might be trying to test the wrong server.

Hope this helps a little bit!
