DNS cache 11 days plus....

On Thursday Dec 27 I moved my website to a new server. Within hours the vast majority of my members were getting to the new server just fine using the domain name. It has been 10 days since the move and I still cannot get to the new server using the domain name. Neither can anyone who is using my ISP in this area, Charter Communications. I have cleared the DNS cache (ipconfig /flushdns) on my computers both at home and at work(we use Charter at work too) but the problem still exist. Any suggestions on how to remedy this situation? ANy help greatly appreciated.

Use some third party DNS.

  1. Verify that your dns setup is good with dnsreport.com or intodns.com
  2. Query your domain on this ISPs nameservers directly (dig or nslookup)
  3. If you confirm that your ISP's nameservers are giving incorrect results, contact tech support at your ISP and ask them to fix it
  4. If you can't wait for (3), Switch your own nameservers to use www.opendns.com (instructions on the site)

Thanks for the help guys. dnsreports show the correct info so it is charter where the problem lies. I'll call them.

foobic I ended up switching to OpenDNS. After 2 phone calls to Charter Communications and getting cut off from both calls it was obvious those little tech people who only deal with customers who have connectivity issues, etc have no clue about DNS cache or how to fix it.
