    Web Developer - Manchester, UK - Full Time, 23000 P.A.

    About this Role

    Virtual Construction is a web consultancy based in the centre of Manchester. We specialise in high quality, user-focused, accessible websites for public sector and social enterprises.

    We're looking to invest in an enthusiastic, conscientious Web Developer, who will help us to design and develop bespoke content management systems and database driven applications.

    Salary: 23,000 - 18,000 p.a. dependent on experience.

    Flexitime, job share and occasional home-working are available.

    Skills and Experience

    * Experience in an open source, server side programming language (ideally PHP, but others considered).
    * Experience in the design and implementation of SQL databases (ideally MySQL) including normalising relational data.
    * A drive to seek out better ways of designing and coding mid-sized web applications for maximum maintainability (use of Object Orientated Programming and experience with frameworks a plus).
    * Although not part of your duties, some experience with HTML, JavaScript and CSS for purposes of integrating your code with templates is required.
    * Experience in developing and working to specifications and other documentation where required.
    * Experience in working with APIs a plus (for example, Google Maps, Paypal, Flickr, Facebook, etc).
    * Experience in deploying systems to remote, unix servers a plus but not required (SSH, etc).


    * 18,000 - 23,000 p.a. dependant on experience.
    * 22 days per year paid holiday allowance.
    * Technically competent management with Web Development experience.
    * We invest time and money in open-source projects.
    * You get your own book, magazine subscription and equipment budget.
    * We're open to flexitime, home working, job sharing and quiet days.
