windows host or specialsit ASP host
Hello all hosters, posters & techies. Would like your help.
I will be setting up a site which uses ASP.NET 1.1. I know versions 3.0/3.5 are available, but they are not yet V2.0 compliant. Anyway thst is not the issue - just context.
Would like your advice as to whether it would be better to host this site with a company who looks as though they are specialising in ASP; such as DiscountASP, or Softsyhosting, or go with a general Windows hoster such as Steadfast, Fluidhosting, or 3Essentials?
I know nothing about ASP, so I don't know whether it is not at all neccessary to have a host specifically knowledgable about it, as I am unlikely to ever have problems with it, OR; I will most certainly have to address ASP issues sometime, so it would be essential to have support who really knows ASP.
What do you all think about these options?
Regards

My recommendation will be to go with a ASP.NET specialist host. My experience says that the asp specialist hosts have expert support team who is very knowledgeable with asp issues and they are also the highly updated hosts. You find the latest technologies available with them whenever you are ready to upgrade your application.
As for the host recommendation, discountasp.net is a winner. However, it is little bit expensive if you wish to use sql server 2005, etc. with them. Softsyshosting.com is a very good alternative as they are highly updated with good support. There are better reviews available for them here and on asp.net forums and recommended by many microsoft professionals.
Thanks,

If you are using ASP.NET technology, I too recommend using a host that specializes in ASP.NET web hosting. I have found that hosts that focus on a specific technology offer better support for that technology and are faster to offer the latest features of that technology.
As for a choosing an ASP.NET host, I strongly recommend Discountasp.net (although they are slightly more inexpensive than other ASP.NET hosts, I don't mind paying a few dollars more for better quality). I have used them for my clients since 2004 and I think they are top notch.

A couple of questions here:
1) how is it not possible for a company to specialize in more then 1 platform? I guess if you are speaking smaller companies, then maybe they may be more geared towards certain platforms. But, certainly mid sized or larger companies can have more then 1 specialization and the staff to support them -
2) latest features are often limited by the controlling systems a company is running. For example, those offering Helm may be called "windows specialists" since Helm only accomodates Windows - however, companies using Helm are limited to releasing and supporting new Windows features until Helm becomes compliant with them and releases updates. Even companies with their own control panels for example still need to develop and integrate their solutions with the new offerings - this can take even longer with custom built CP's then generally available commercial offerings...

Hi Iration,
I'm a bit slow to respond, but I do appreciate your recommendation. Both DiscountASP, and Softsyhosting look to be well-regarded with good reviews, and offer good packages. 3essentials are in my thinking as well, so I will look to choose between them. Also needing a new email host - for a domain I have had for some years, so that too is in my thinking. I don't yet know if I can include it (as an addition) in a hosting plan, and I have so far preferred a local host - in Oz; so I don't know whether that is still the best option for email.
Best wishes

Email services are provided by both discountasp.net and softsyshosting.com. If you need to add another domain in your hosting package, you can choose a multiple domain hosting plan with softsyshosting.com or can add another domain to your plan as an add on package if you choose discountasp.net.
