Looking for a free cpanel for a personal private VPS, lookin for one that will allow me to setup virtual hosting accounts for my own use.
Any suggestions?

You can get cpanel for free if you will use it for educational purposes, etc I have many free licenses for educational customers. for personal use they never give it free.
See their TOS:
Educational Licenses
Licenses for educational institutions are provided at a reduced cost. cPanel, Inc. reserves the right to deny or rescind licenses to institutions that it does not see as legitimate; generally all domains with an .edu extension can apply for this license. For more information, please contact us Note: Please note that students do not qualify for this type of license.
Non-Profit Licenses
Licensing is available for organizations registered with the United States Internal Revenue Service as a non-profit organization. This licensing is at a reduced cost of normal licensing. You must be able to prove non-profit status. For more information, please contact us.
A License for Personal Use
We do not currently provide personal use licenses. Our software is designed to be used in a commercial web hosting capacity and is not suited for home use.

not sure what you mean there. You mean any form of control panel for you or your customers? You want this to be from a hosting company towards you or from you towards your customers?

Free? You can use Webmin. If you also mean to set up customers on the box, Virtualmin added to that gives you quicker setups, similar (kind of) to cPanel. Usermin gives your non-root end users a friendlier interface for basic tasks.

I've tried both, I find Virtualmin more flexible and gives you a lot of options but runs slower and is just very confusing/ugly.
ISPconfig still has all the basic options/features but looks better in my opinion.

What operating system? VHCS is nice on Debian, you could also look into Zervex's ServerCP Lite.

i agree, you should try ispconfig....you wont find free cpanel...unless you have some cheap hosting that offers it..but then you're stuck with the cheap hosting
