Setting up a VPS

Hi,

I have a server sitting on my dsl connection at home. Being with the wondering people at BT, I get 5 ip addresses to play with - but they can only be assigned to 1 computer each.

Hence, heing the playful sort of person that I am, I thought about setting up a VPS on my home server. (Not entirely logical I grant you).

However, I have not found a step by step guide or a straight forward way of doing this? Or even having a web interface to keep it all managed? Will the bt router even treat the VPS's as seperate computers?

Cheers,

Are you going to sell them or host anything on them thats important? Home connections are terrible for webhosting, and most providers don't allow commercial use.

Otherwise, you need to install a control panel like HyperVM on top of the Linux distro (HyperVM is free for 5 VPS licenses).

Hi SuperBytes ~

I was going to use them to host my personal sites and use them to test sites that I design before I upload them to the host that I use. Plus I wanted to do it just to see how it was done!!

Would I just need HyperVM? I'll have a google with it.

Cheers

If you use Windows you could always have a look at VMWare Server (www.vmware.com)

You'll probably find this the easiest to setup - and it's free
