Galaxyvisions.com Quick Review

GalaxyVisions.com
Quote:
Dedicated Server Package GVP2 $299 per month
Dual Intel Xeon 2.8GHz CPU's
2GB FB ECC RAM
2 X 74GB SCSI HDD's in Raid 1
Linux CentOS with Plesk CP installed for up to 30 domains
An included IP range of 30 addresses
3500GB Of Transfer
Semi Silver Level Managed Services for immediate NOC root response
After massive amounts of research on the net, and basing my decision on simple latency and hop Speed and location. I live in Long Island, NY. The datacenter is in Brooklyn, NY. Basically 30 minute driving distance from my house. So, just in case an emergency situation comes about I can actually drive to the datacenter and speak with the techs directly. Also, having the capability to migrate easily should I ever decide to co-locate in their datacenter.

I ordered the server late on Thursday night last week. They had initially promised me a turn around time of one day, which would mean the dedicated server would be available to use on Friday by 8PM at night. Although I had slightly changed things around a bit because I requested to adjust the PleskCP installion by using Mysql 4.20 instead of Mysql 5.0 as well as an older version of PHP to make sure I have no compatibility issues when restoring my huge vbulletin database. So, they took about 1 extra day in processing because there software techs were off until Saturday. The server got processed and was ready early this morning complete with all of the modifications I requested.

Only 1 issue has arisen. For whatever reason Plesk CP 8.3 did not install a license key, so I was using a demo control panel. I had emailed galaxyvisions.com NOC today on a sunday with my root password, and within 15 mintues they had installed a brand new 30 domain license key in Plesk for me. I am extremely satisfied with customer service so far.

I have two very large operations that I am still a little hesitant to transfer over to the new server until I am fully satisfied with speed and config. (www.svtsnake.com and www.nextlevelhardware.com), however I do have one domain that should be functioning on the new galaxyvisions IP: www.nsgcenter.com if anyone would like to test it out.

The server is incredibly fast, and a night and day difference compared to my old Aplus.net Premium Dedicated server.

I will attach a screenshot of my ping and throughput from my house. I am extremely impressed with server speed. Here is the screenshot: http://www.svtsnake.com/test.jpg

9ms ping speed from my house
2.1 MB/s throughput!!!!

I would also like to know if you guys could ping my server IP address from different locations in the US and let me know what you get. IP: 206.71.62.132

Also, I have provided a 30 MB test file here, please right click save as and let me know sustained read:
http://206.71.62.132/ssdnew.mpg

Please provide me with bandwidth results from all around the country.

Obviously I do not have any data on reliability. You will need to give me a few months. So far, very impressed.

Dominick
Owner,
SVTSnake.com , Nextlevelhardware.com

You ordered a server last week? You were just asking for information on the host on Friday...

Just odd that you ordered the server on Thursday and then posted a thread on Friday asking about them. In your thread on Friday, you hadnt mentioned anything about the fact you already had the server. Odd.

How'd you hear about GV? Do you have a sales rep over there?

Are you kidding me dude. THis is absolutely ludicris. What the hell are you implying? Do some research on the internet: Dominick Strippoli, my name.

I own SVTSnake.com
I own Nextlevelhardware.com

I produce hardware articles for my tech domain, like this one:
http://www.nextlevelhardware.com/storage/mobi/

What other proof do you need?
I do not work for galaxy visions, this is absolutely rediculous. Go on OCForums.com or Xtremesystems.org and ask about Dominick32. You can find tons of information on me all over the internet.

Would you like my root password to the server?unbelievable

Nah - nothing like that, just odd that someone would buy a server and then post a thread a day later asking for information on the host.

I've found tons of information on you , I really like the svtsnake.com forums.

I dont see anywhere where I implied you work for GV... not sure why you'd imply something like that. Odd.

So how'd you find out about them?

Sirius

Sirius,
I am sorry for over-reacting!!! LOL
I just figured I would get a little more positive responses, not implying that I am trying to push GV or anything. hehe

Again, I am sorry. The reason for my server purchase is because of hop speed, and the fact that I live in Commack, NY. Brooklyn is the closest datacenter to my house. I wanted to ability to be able to drive to the datacenter to speak directly to Lenny my sales rep, or any of the techs at their NOC.

Yes, I came on here after I purchased the server to see if anybody had anything negative to say about them that was un-biased.

Seeing that you are the CIO of WebHostingTalk, I figured you would not have assumed anything on me, and that there was a possible chance you would have met me at CES one day or something??

Regards,
Dominick

Hi Dominick
I was wondering how your experience has been since you posted your review. I stumbled across their site when looking for a VPS or managed dedicated server and was surprised by the low prices..too good to be true? Their own site come up fast, and I am checking from a place with a lot of hops in the path.
Thanks for any advice about their service.
Stan

I did some quick search and from the lite of that I would like to say some thing about Galaxy Vision.com. I have noticed their plans. I dont think their price is low. But they are ready for configure and maintain customer server for optimal performance and reliability!. That seems to be good. We have had very few companies that offers maintenance and configuration of servers. Do they ask some $$$ for this service?.
