Reliability: HostGator or KnownHost?
I am looking for a good reseller account. Which would you recommend higher for reliability -- HostGator or KnownHost?
Thanks,
Kim

Both. I was primarily thinking about uptime, but support is nearly as important.

A bit off topic, but keep in mind that both hosts have overselling disabled for resellers (AFAIK). Just making sure you're not going to have an unpleasant surprise, as some resellers are quite fond of this feature.

After experience with them both a few years ago, I'd definitely go for KnownHost

I have been with KnownHost for over 6 months now. I now need to pay for an upgrade, so before doing so, I have re-read this discussion by way of keeping tabs on their competitors. I am unable to find any reputable host with better pricing.
I decided to add to this old discussion because--I may be mistaken--but it seems HostGator has no VPS plans. If like Kimi you want a 'reseller' account, then you will want VPS at some time. KnownHost has inexpensive VPS accounts--as well as super-cheap non-VPS reseller accounts if that's what you want to start with. So if I am correct, this is one glaring advantage to KnownHost over HostGator.
More subjectively, I never tried HostGator, but their presentation suggests what I call a 'Walmart-style' host: very big, mass produced and impersonal. So HostGator may well be a good host, but I tend to believe people when they say KnownHost is better. KnownHost is big enough to be very reliable, but their customer service seems to have strong authority and their top brass seems to be always close at hand. Sort of like a very big but very friendly family-owned hardware store.
For more details about KnownHost, and also about choosing a webhost generally, I suggest reading this other old discussion:

I have had a reseller account with Hostgator for about two years, and also two VPS's with Knownhost.
Both companies have been superb. Hostgator is big but their support has always been there when I needed it. Knownhost support is even faster than Hostgator and a bit more personal.
The only downside for me of Knownhost is they don't have dedicated servers, whereas Hostgator do, and at at very good prices.
But if you're just needing reseller hosting, either of them is equally good. Hostgator have some valuable extras, such as free WHMCS and you also get a whole lot of free (quality) web templates. But Knownhost makes you feel like you are part of a family, which is worth a lot. I'm happy to have a foot in both camps and have accounts with both of them. If I had to pick between them, I'd go with Knownhost for their personal support.

I refer all of my clients who are looking for reseller or non-reseller hosting to HostGator.
The main reason is the support is un-matched. You just need to be very detailed when contacting them, but they will help you resolve anything, even things they shouldn't necessarily be responsible for.To Higher Profits,

hi Kim,
Knownhost seems to have just been established for 3 years, but they have many good reviews and customers are satisfied with them, but as I said, they are still new .
Hostgator is longer in the business and they are quite a good company but there have already been complaints about their service .
May I know why you just stick to the two choices ? There are many others who are great tooGabrielle ~ Host Department LLC

I think KnownHost does not allow overselling and they don't oversell their plans. Hostgator does not allow overselling, too. But they oversell their plans.

Hi,
I was searching for a good reseller and from your discussion, I think knownhost is a good fit. I would like to know if they support a good support for PHP, and if they have wordpress and PHPBB forum applications on their server?
Also, I had my old sites on a Plex control panel and would like to know if changing to their control panel may cause a problem with the site content or backup?
Thanks in Advance
Rafiq

I cannot speak about KnownHost (funny name since I've never heard of them. LOL) but I can tell you about HG.
I've been to HG headquarters in Houston, Texas. I've walked their floors, met and shadowed their front end staff, attended one of their training classes, met with their management and administrative staff, and one word sums it all up: TEAMWORK!
HG trains their staff well and gives them the tools and resources they need to provide great support to their customers. If a Gator ever needs additional information about a problem they have tools that allow them to get in contact instantly with any other Gator working there at the time.
Also, you just can't beat 24/7 ticket, Live Chat AND phone support.
