Ona Cpanel server, the document root is typically public_html. It's the lowest directory that is still publicly reachable.

Thats apache configuration in general, not just cPanel.

Not from what I've experienced. Some control panels have different naming conventions (/var/www/domain.com for instance). Cpanel is the only one I've been on that's always /public_html.

    ^^What Dan said.

Assuming that your CP uses public_html, then there's no difference.

I was referring to the general point of the location. What you could put in /var/www/html, /home/user/public_html, /opt/srv/www/ are all the same thing... just a different path. However this html location is what DocumentRoot is referring too.
