Question who is the best b/w provider in the US?

who would u guys say are the best transit backbones in the US?

take this in the view of network quality only... NOT on pricing/etc...

    ------------------------
i have my own opinions on this... obviously... just wanna know what the rest of u guys think...

I'd certainly vote Internap, much better than UUnet.

I would have probably picked Yipes! but, it wasn't an option.

whats your logic for picking yipes?

reason i ask is because generally speaking, they're a level3 reseller... (yes, they have their own backbone and peering, but soo much of their stuff just runs off level3)...

personally, i put 'em in the same boat as cogent... but with much better peering

    lol

as for uunet... i think they've got the best global connectivity around... heh...

internap, technically, i don't consider them a backbone cuz they aren't stupid enough to run around laying fiber... they approached the business the smart way... just build datacenters with connectivity from all the bigboys and use a really innovative routing technology... and make everybody drool... lol... saving the millions/billions it'd cost to run around laying fiber and begging for peering partners just to offset the cost of laying that fiber...

how come nobody votes for exodus? i mean... come on ppl... they do host google and overture and nintendo and ebay and ... ... ... lol... but thats just me, i guess i'm a bit biased cuz i m 'bout to be hosted by 'em... in conjunction with worldcom and internap... lol

They would get my vote too if this poll was based on pricing, but he mentionted that this is supposed to be network quality...

but i made it clear that this was a rating of network quality... not price...

and price <-> performance, i think verio wins... heh

if someone doesn't care about quality, then cogent's the best bet

Well, Yipes! uses Gig-E connections with providers in their service areas. For instance, my trace goes across Genuity, to their Gig-E feed to Yipes!.

I definitely chose InterNAP since by going through InterNAP you are basically getting nine providers in BGP4: UUNet, ATT, Sprint, Verio, Global Crossing, Cables and Wireless, BBN/Genuity, QWest, and Digex. So ... why choose one or two when you can get nine ...

    Internap all the way =)

And isn't it Internap not InterNAP? Everything on their website refers to "Internap".

Yes, you're right. I said "IntetNAP" because the guy in front of me did so I thought I was wrong
