Check out Visnetic Firewall from Deerfield. Has lot of configuration and blocking options.

you will need into locking down the NTFS and some of the system executable files. Make sure to keep your Windows patched always.

    2. How can I Install And Optimize PHP and ASP2 and other Software on windows server ?

    Thanks

the important is to lock down your server. For Helm, make sure you apply a strong password for the default admin account. You may also try run PHP with FastCGI which is supported by Microsoft with their recent release in Windows 2003.

Can't really say which is the best, I do not have the benchmarks. But I used and like Visnetic a lot for Firewall. Anti Virus wise I like F Prot. You can change Administrator name by Clicking Start -> Administration Tools -> Computer Management.

I still preserve my vote for the windows default firewall . If you are looking for a free AV, go with Clamwin (its good enuf, but resource usage is very high) and as i have suggested earlier, nod32 is good for enterprise use.

Boondeer has specified the method to change your administrator username ..

Problem with Clamwin is that it does not have Real Time scanning if I am right? At least for the last time I used it. Windows default firewall should do the trick as well if you just need a basic firewall.

Yes, you are right and has other problems too , like management of scan logs , memory usage etc . However it works great with mailenable with the added plugin .

AVG also have a free av, but i will strongly recommend Mcafee, it is a paid product, but it is the best one.

as for the firewall, i also agree that the windows default is a good option.

AVG free is for personal usage, thats the problem. I find Mcafee seems very quite on resources.

Taking this opportunity, can I ask for Windows Default Firewall blocking of port, this is the layer before or after the TCP filtering of ports? And basically whats the difference between the two for filtering of ports?

Mcafee should be optimized to work properly, and then you should see that it works perfectly. For example, Viruscan it always using the on-access scan, it is constantly running and scanning the files, if you use SQL, you should exclude the data and log files from on-access scan.

TCP Filtering works in kernel mode and it is used to control inbound traffic. You are not able to block icmp with tcp filtering. To have more control over tcp/Ip connections and to secure your server, you should not use port filtering only, you should also deploy a network firewall. The Windows Firewall will allow you to control inbound and outbound traffic

I hope this answers to your question

Basically you would need the following ports

    3389 - rdesktop
    21 - ftp
    passive ftp ports
    mssql/mysql (optional)
    pop / smtp
