Windows Hosting Needed - Few requirements ...

Hello,

I need windows hosting. Either VPS or Dedicated.

The requirements:
- I must be able to login using windows remote desktop.
- I must be able to install and run VMWARE on the server.
- All programs started should keep on running, even when I close the remote connection.

Maximum $200 a month.

Please recommend.

You have a fantastic budget for your needs. I would suggest you stick with a dedicated server if you're planning to run VMWARE. Take a look at the offers section below, you should be able to find a few good deals that fit your needs and budget.

You can get very good Dedicated server solutions with your budget. Check out http://www.HandyNetworks.com and also the offers section as there are lot of promotions going on.

Good luck!

Definitely go with a dedicated server if you need to run VMware. The only thing you may need to work on is this (depending on your application)

" - All programs started should keep on running, even when I close the remote connection."

If the program is not a service, then it's probably not going to run that reliabilty. If the program you're looking to run is not a service, you should take a look at http://www.firedaemon.com/.

Try to shoot for at least a single Xeon with 2GB of memory. You might not be able to get RAID-1 as well for your monthly budget so have a very good backup plan in place (you should not matter what anyway).

Nobody has asked you how many VM's you plan to run? Have realistic expectations on what a $200 server will do (probably 2, maybe 3 at the very most). You're probably looking at two CPU cores at around 2.4ghz and 512mb to each VM (assuming you get 2GB to start). 1GB memory seems almost out of the question unless it's VM (256mb each) was used for very light duty linux/unix duties).

I would really to to shoot for $250-300 a month which will get you 2GB ram and a box with solid hardware based RAID-1. Your budget is great for most small hosting operations, but I think you're pushing it a bit using it to run what's likely multiple VM's.

Regards,

Wayne
