Need a Windows webhost, any recommendations?
Hello,
I'm looking for a host who would have a plan that would meet my needs;
- 1 GB space (maybe a bit less, not sure how many videos will be hosted yet).
- Decend bandwitdh (students will be able to view videos so some bandwitdh will be required).
- SSI (i'm using includes).
- 3 DSN (the site is currently configured with 3 dsn, there are 3 Access databases).
No need for ASP.NET and SQL Server. The site has been done with ASP and MS Access. It has been running for the past two years, but our current host cannot give us a bigger plan that we have now (100MB)... hence why we need to move it.
I'm basically looking for something that's not too much expensive.
Thanks for any recommendations you care to make.
Have a good day
Denis

What is "too much expensive" for you? What is your budget?

Thanks for the welcome :-),
To answer your question, i could pay something around 75-100$ per year. I would pay once a year. Would this be reasonable?
I also found accuwebwebhosting.com has a 1GYG plan at 49.95$ yearly (if you pay for a full year at once). Anyone tried that host ?
Thanks for your comments, they are all greatly appreciated.

Hello Denis,
Your requirements should not be difficult for most Win providers to handle. I'm afraid I've not had experience w/ accuwebwebhosting.com, but this is an excellent place to ask questions and research & review providers.
Good luck w/ your search and best wishes!

I agree with AllenB. Your requirements can be fulfilled by most of the Windows Hosting Providers. I haven't heard about **************.com but you can use the "Search" feature of WHT to see their customers review. Don't get lured by the prices. Research well before selecting a host.
All the best!!

Also try taking a look at the offers section below, you may find a host that meets your needs and budget.

Sir, with all due respect, where is the profit margin for the hosting company at that price? What motivates them to pick up the phone when you have a support issue? There is much more than just price to consider. If this is not an important site. IE downtime is no big deal then by all means, seek out the low bidder.

I completely agree that Denis' target budget is probably too low unless he's doing some sort of project where performance and service are not important to him. The thing that caught my eye about this thread is that he says he will be posting videos, and that's driving a requirement for increased capacity. It's probably wise for him to consider revisiting his budget so that he can get a web host with good quality network if he intends to stream videos. My gut would say that anything below the $10-20/mo figure is probably not a great fit for what he's mentioned above.

Thanks for all the input. It's sure that support is important and that a cheap host probably won't do the extra mile to provide decent support. I'll take that to consideration as well.
As for the budget, i'm willing to raise it. But for the first year, we'll probably have 5 students at the same time on the site and they won't be streaming videos all the time. It's just small videos that adds to the content of the course. That's why i had a 75 to 100$ budget for the first year, if the product sells and we get more hits i'll be more than willing to spend more on hosting that's for sure. Thanks for bringing this point up.
