Whenever I run (script 1 in firefox) that does any of the following 2 functions:

1) passthru(wget -q -O $file $url)
2) using CURL

while trying to access (script 2 in another firefox) window at the same time, (script 2) will not respond until (script 1) has completed. HOWEVER, it works fine if one window is IE and the other is FIREFOX.

The server does not have problems in serving images, FLV, and basic PHP scripts.

I've tried to find where its hanging and it appears to be when connecting to the mysql database or has session_start at the top of the script.

I've also tried both scripts on Apache and Lighttpd.
Server is currently running PHP-CGI 5.2.5, xcache with Lighttpd, Mysql 5. QuadCore 1 cpu with 2gb ram. The only user is me as I'm still configuring the site, so the server always has load 0.00 0.00 0.00 0.00.


I would like to hire someone experienced in

1) lighttpd
2) PHP-cgi
3) mysql 5
4) xcache
5) Centos

to optimize my server so to allow the site to function while (script 1) is running at the sametime on firefox. This includes having the sever tuned for high expecting loads.

I find it odd how you mention at the beginning you have 296 employees then toward the end you say you have 300 engineers!!
