Why does google hate my site?

I've had a site online since 1999, and has normally had a pretty good page rank. I've just started working on it again and see that google doesn't seem to be playing nice.

If you look at the number of sites that contain the phrase "jeepz.com" (my website), there is a respectable 39,500.

If you look for sites that link to Jeepz.com, you get a whopping 4

What's up with that?

I believe google is changing how there PR system functions, not sure if they have started this yet or not. I've read that when your page is edited, or you have SEO done to it, initially it's rank will drop and then begin to rise within the next few weeks.

Also, when your searching for sites that link to yours, that's exactly what it does. Those 39,500 other webpages only have a reference not an actual page link to your website.

Handy Man - thanks for the info, but the no link thing just doesn't jive. 39,500 sites have the text www.jeepz.com, but only 4 have an actual link?

In the first two pages I was able to find sites that have links to jeepz.com but aren't in the "linkite" page.

I get the feeling that the linkite is broken or something.

Periodically, as Google updates its indexes, the numbers of sites linking in, and the number of pages on your site, can vary widely.

Just to point out, when following your link, Google reports: Results 1 - 10 of about 908 for "jeepz.com". (0.13 seconds)

Is it possible that some of the sites that were linking to you removed your links??

just as one example:

from the first page of results for the 39,500 sites with the word www.jeepz.com,

http://www.4lo.com/links/urls.php

however that isn't a site that links to me (despite the clear link to me on their website).

Thanks everyone for repling - I appreciate the help, but it just seems like google is either updating, or there is something wrong with the reporting of my site.

I think that Google doesn’t expect that new web sites have a large number of links. That is why Google hate your site.

I think that the difference has to do with the search target. Looking for sites containing the character-string "jeepz.com" will return "hits" for pages with "jeepz.com", "www.jeepz.com", "jeepz.com/cars/index.html", "www.jeepz.com/tires/flat_is_bad.html", "jeepz.com/tires/round_is_better.html", and so forth.

On the other hand, looking for sites which link to "jeepz.com" may return only pages which link to the URL "jeepz.com" (or intent-equivalent "www.jeepz.com" or "jeepz.com/index.html"). You'll not get results for "jeepz.com/cars/" or "www.jeepz.com/rebuilt_engines/list.html", etc, but just exactly the URL about which you enquired.

Just my opinion (and experience), of course; I could be wrong.

Eliz.

It is strange because I notice my site shows up in Google more than Yahoo.
