Windows Backup Software for Rsync
I want to be able to allow my users to backup their Windows computers to their remote backup account, but I am unable to find a freeware/open source script that will perform rsync for them, allow them to pick partitions, folders, and files for backup. They also need to be able to schedule when it performs the backup and also allows them to restore files. Its also key that the backup works on files that are open at the time.
Any ideas on this? The only software that i have found that allows you to do this requires you to run a special software on the server as well. I am just looking for a windows client (with installer) that just uses a ssh user/pass.

Could you not give them a batch file which executes an xxcopy statement to backup the required stuff? Not sure how you would need to work the permissions. You would only want them to be able to execute it and would not want to give them direct access to run xxcopy, only through the batch file.
I use xxcopy for my home machine and it's brilliant but then again, I have full access to that obviously.

You could look at DeltaCopy (http://www.aboutmyip.com/AboutMyXApp/DeltaCopy.jsp). It is an rsync application for Windows that can run as a Windows service, and you can schedule it to do backups pretty easily. Free too.

Delta copy looked great and i had downloaded and installed it before this post, but i was under the assumption that i had to run their server as well. Am i wrong?
EDIT: I guess i am wrong, but the problem is that it requires you to use keys for ssh and move around some files and so other extra stuff that i think its a bit ridiculous. Its to bad it doesnt just allow you to set a username/pass/port for ssh access. http://www.aboutmyip.com/AboutMyXApp...ayFAQ.do?fid=1Last edited by MACscr; 11-20-2007 at 03:10 PM.

I am still in the same boat. Its hard searching for a software like this that meets my requirements, but doesnt try to sell you their online backup service with it. I keep thinking im finding a solution, then to find out it only works with their storage plans. =(

rsync is somewhat harder to implemented on windows
most software I've seen uses their own algorithm to check for filesRestoreMax - The benchmark of PC Remote Backup Software for web hosts

I honestly could care less what algorithm is used as long as it keeps me the same type of functionality.
