Eternal battle

We seem to get our share of the usual scannings and bruteattacks and we are pretty aggressive when it comes to sending emails to their isp's(though the real guys would never let their ip to be seen in our logs, but at least we get their tunnels).

We have created a script that helps us to automaticly search the needed information about ip, isp and emailaddresses and we often send a complaint about an ip which is scanning or bruting our servers. Does other isps do this?

It's obvious that this doesn't help that much but we like to think that offence is the best defence. Of course we keep our systems as safe as possible but it sometimes gives us great enjoyment to win even a small chapter in this epic battle.

Have you ever reported an ip that is scanning or trying to attack your system and have you had any success trying to find the bad guys?

Reporting an IP to a ISP, and actually getting the person in trouble (ISP cancels their service, etc) if they actually cause harm in one way or another.

If you can prove that by them attempting to brute force your site caused damage, then you could pursue it further.

I report all IPs used during fraud aka stolen pay pal accounts, etc.

Your best bet would be to block their IP from your control panel even on "attempts".
