what kind of dedi do I need?

I have a vbulletin forum with max 2000 users online at same time as record.

At average its around 800 online.
I am very new to this hosting stuff. I don't know much about computer parts

anyway I heard this LightHttpd could do wonders?

Hahaha, no way.

There is no searching, no posting. And no members. All guest just taking a look at 1 of my theads in 1 hour and then leave. New guest comes ,does the same ... and on and on.

I refuse to pay 300 $ monthly for that. I rather install blogsoftware instead of vb forum.

You could get by with a Server under $100-$150 for what you need, I'm sure. If your new to the hosting stuff, then get a control panel to go with the server. Getting a Pentium 4 2.4GHz+ and 1GB of RAM would probably do it as a minimum.

Best of luck and don't overpay! Just upgrade as needed

Hehe, i see. I thought it was like 500 members using the search option all the time etc. You could get a budget server in that case

so you basically use the forum as a Blog / Newssystem?
i mean ... if there is no posting ... and no searching ... why use a forum in the first place?

i think a Pentium D with about a gig of ram should do it.
i remember cari.net having a sale on pentium d's and xeons.
Something like a pentium d for 90/month and 140/m for a xeon.

check it out and best of luck.
