windows hosting and desktop application
I am looking for a host to run a Windows desktop application(very simple) some times per day.
Are there such hosts which allow to run a desktop application on a shared plan?

With shared hosting this really isn't possible. You need to find yourself a VPS, they will allow you to run a desktop app and remote desktop into it whenever you need.

Do you mean that you need to run a scheduled task? I agree with John, you will need to get a VPS or dedicated hosting.

I highly doubt you'll find any shared host that'll run a pre-compiled EXE for you. What's your application do? If it's that simple maybe there's a way to achieve the same thing through a web scripting language that a host would run as a scheduled task.

Thank you for your help. It seems I should think about a VPS.
Please help me with the following:
Now I am looking a shared host which allows to run a CGI EXE application. Is there any problem with running CGI EXEs on shared plans?

If you are going for a VPS why would it matter?

No, there is absolutely no any problem with running CGI EXEs on shared plans. You can run your CGI scripts without any issues on shared servers.

It dosen't make any sence to purchase a VPS just only to run your CGI based appications (provided your hosting provider support CGI )

Unfortunately, there is a problem with running CGI EXEs on shared plans. For example, I've sent my question "Can we run a CGI EXE application on your base hosting plan?" to DiscountASP.NET and here is their reply:
"We cannot allow any types of .exe files to run on our shared hosting servers."
Could you recommend me a reliable host without such limitation?

That's your exact problem though... there are no "reliable" hosts that will allow EXE's to run in a shared environment. The are a *HUGE* security risk!
You're basically asking a host to allow you to upload a file to their server that when executed could try to run any arbitrary function you want (hacking their server for example). Granted, anyone who knows better would only run that EXE with limited user permissions (not as administrator) assuming they were foolish enough to allow it in the first place.
It's very unlikely and I'd say probably impossible that you'll find any shared host to support that. If you do I would seriously question their security ethics.
Regards,
Wayne
