The FBI added me on msn?

This is very weird.. but i had some guy add me on msn with a weird msn address name was ph4******@fbi.gov it started with a ph4 or something it looked like a typical noob hacker name.. if it was the fbi they wont have something weird in front of @fbi.gov surely..

So i added him and now i cant see this person on my msn... what should i do? Somebody actually trying to hack?

Some serious advice would be good.

Cheers.

Don't they have to verify their email before signing into MSN? If so, maybe they are for real, as they would need access to the email to verify the account. Although I am not 100% sure, that is weird for sure.

This is a major flaw with MSNs passport service, NO you do not have to verify the account before signing onto it. If you do sign on to it however, it will have a (Account not verified) after it, but a long display name can easily hide this from view.

At any rate, the FBI would have absolutely no reason to add you on MSN because if they needed to talk to you they would just knock on your door.

Also I would like to add, if this individual attempts to get any information from you what so ever then just tell them you are reporting this with logs to abuse@fbi.gov and to impersonate a FBI agent is (usually) a federal offence and that you are now going to block them.

It should say something like "Email address unverified."

Edit: Oops, Thecks beat me to it

It would not surprise me if MSN automatically sends those sign ups to the FBI. Microsoft isn't huge on privacy.

I remember signing up for a @leo.gov account since real fbi agents don't use @fbi.gov emails anymore. But then again, mine's not verified.

Well i do a lot of things online, and i also study the internet. I saw the start of his email address it had something like P4hekor_x1o@fbi.gov something like that.. i saw the P and the number 4 together and a "h" i think after.. its a name widely used by hackers, or wannabe noobs. That is what gave the game away.

So i thought let me add and speak to this individual, but he is nowhere to be seen on my msn list, which is the freaky bit and nothing else.

If FBI has a problem with you, they'll come to your door, don't worry. Internet instant messaging is not how they do business.

Just don't modify any weapons on the latest FPS game you bought or it could be a virtual "Ruby Ridge"!
