So is google stripping PR from all directories?

I noticed all directory sites including mine which was PR6 is now PR3 - PR4. I assume Google is removing our links from their search? I have decided to cancel my $500+ monthly adwords account then since if they are going to screw us over I will not pay for their service.

Google ads they are only after your money not to help you get sales. From my previous experience with them you did the right move.

Thanks. Yeah I just checked over at the Digital Point forums and there are a ton of people affected by this. I also sent Google an email which I am sure they will just ignore about how I feel their decision is wrong and how I have already paused all of my campaigns in adwords.

Because their PR6 or 7 directory page brings in a nice text link income. A PR of zero pretty much puts the page out of business.

It's an old news, google penalizing link directories, but then it also said that only bad ones are affected.

How true it was, only google or the directory owners know.

In the brave new world of online media, fortunes can be won and lost on the whim of Google's key search algorithm.

And when, without warning, Google tweaked that mathematical formula this week, there was panic on the world wide web.

Swarms of bloggers and webmasters of major sites like Washingtonpost.com, Forbes.com, Engadget.com and SFGate.com noticed a downgrading in their PageRank, Google's measure of a web page's value.

If you spend $1000/day on adwords, someone from Google will personally call you to help you out. Trust me on this one.

Hm. A day.
Google is mediator and both Googles programs: Adwords and adSence help them to grow. I have seen plenty of web sites which are seems to be used only for getting profit from adsence.
Other point of view: they have gained over good web sites and they don't allow to have direct advertising only through google.
I'm personaly not familar with google ads and it is quite difficult for me to create sucessful campaign.
Some people create websites only for Google ads.
I think that mast be prevented somehow.

With that ad spend commit, you'd hope so.

Directory websites are a waste of internet. Paying google to advertise you does not, and should not guarantee you a high PR.

There's a difference between a search engine, and a directory. Why would someone go to a search engine to find a directory when they can just go to the search engine and find the websites the directory is linking to?
