Can this happen?

I have a website with cpanel on it and stuff in the mysql databases. I am not so trustworthy of the guy who runs it anymore. If Can they get my cpanel password and steal all my files like my database and steal all my source codes like php? Do the hosts have access to all my files code and all my databases info?

Hi,

Yes your webhost potentially has access to everything on the server, including files, emails, databases and anything else you may have stored on there.

If you are worried, take a backup, and find a new host.

EDIT: Oh and they don't need your cPanel password to do it

If it's your host they dont even need your password.

But most hosts take backups anyway in case of server failure etc, so they may allready have it archived.

why did u sign up with a host you dont trust...
you should go with a big company with a decent client base...never go in for a host hosting only a few clients

anyways...do let us know if you need any suggestions for hosts..
thats what we are here for

If everyone took your advice there would never be anymore new hosting companies.

Hosting with a 'new' company doesn't necessarily mean you'll have a negative experience. It's the new companies ran by incompetent individuals that cause the problems.

I agree, new companies aren't bad, it's all in how they are run.

Hmm....

You will have the same issue about trust no matter where you host. If it's on the server, it's likely your host can get to your files and database information. The only way to avoid that is to go dedicated and not give out the login...(among other things).

New companys that appear from nowhere with mis-spelled websites that look like unedited templates during school holidays or anything that offers the world for $10 needs to be avoided

Even then a large number of datacenters have engineers logins and such like on servers so they can access the server if needed... UK2.net and HostDime.com both seem to from what I have seen

Well, just incase your wondering most host will routinely either scan the system or pick a few accounts to search for anything that breaks the TOS.

Oh what fun... the weekly server security sweep of 23 shared hosting servers.. the memorys of screaming customers begging not to be suspended... oh the horror of it all... im glad im not have to do that anymore! - but for how long i am not so sure... i'm so tempted to wander back into the business hosting some time in the next year or so but proberbly shouldn't for the sake of my (in)sanity...

- Don't worry if you new here, the above is just the ravings of a mad man

EDIT: Said mad man does not bite or have an axe/chainsaw/knife/gun... only a mouse and keyboard so you pretty much safe

Best way to know if you can trust a company is to try to reach their owner (or someone close) and have a good talk with them. Maybe even talk on the phone.

Going to your original question, is there any reason for not trusting your host? If that is the case please tell us your host and the reason so that it will be helpful for others.

Or if there is no reason, it's all same even if you switch host.
