help/advice for a newbie

hi

my dad runs a photo studio and over the past 3 years i'd made him a little website which ive been running off my free AOL webspace.

however, we finally decided today to take the plunge and spend some money on a decent site. The offline site is ready to be uploaded now and so today we bought some space but cannot get it working.

Previously my dad had been using Easily for his domain name re-direct which has been pointing to my free AOL space. He's set up an account with 123-reg today. On Easily i've changed our nominet tag this afternoon to 123-reg in an attempt to transfer our domain name to 123-reg. 123-reg was saying that the transfer was completed this evening, so we then bought the 123-reg hosting/webspace to go with our domain name. ive then ftp'd my web files to our new space today which seemed fine. now when I type in the domain name it takes me back to the Easily homepage. am I doing something wrong? or does this take time to change?

ive gone into his old Easily account but since we transferred the nominet tag his domain is no longer there. so why does the address still point to Easily? i've also tried changing the "nameserver" to 123-reg's one but this hasn;t changed anything.

so how do I get my dads domain name to take people to the new webspace we've just bought where the files have already been uploaded.

its the first time ive used anything other than our free webspace and i'm obviously making some mistakes somewhere along the line. or have I done everything right and now I just need to be patient.

My confusion mainly stems from the fact the domain name is still pointing towards the easily homepage.

can anyone help me?

I think its just a matter of the DNS hasnt fully propogated yet.
As long as you have your new correct host DNS info in the domain record it will resolve shortly.

It takes at least 12 hour after the DNS change to get the domain pointed to new host. Di you change them?

yes, i've changed them

one other question if thats okay.

we've been messing about with the settings all day telling it to re-direct to different pages etc. we have probabaly changed it 10 times today.

earlier tonight the page was directing to the website which I thought meant it had worked finally. but after checking again a few hours later it was pointing back to the Easily website.

could this be a result of our earlier tampering. would it make sense that its just catching up with all the changes we made? for example, we didnt realise it would take so long to update (naiveity) and so we kept changing where it should point to in a lame attempt to get it working.

could this mean that it will change over the next few days whilst it catches up with all our changes we made today?

I don't think so. Just stay with the current settings and give it a few hours.

You may also want to clear your Temporary Internet Files and browser cache - these may still be showing you the old site.
