Hello, I know this a Webhosting Forum (the biggst and nicestone I have ever seen) but I was wondering about becomeing an Dialup ISP. I know many memebers of this forum are very smart and can help me out. Here is my qustion. I have a lakehouse in centeral Texas that has no ISP anywhere aound. My regular house is in houston Texas and has 1.2MBits DSL connection. The lake house and my real house are about 2 hours 30 minutes apart. Here I what I was wondering. Could I start a dialup ISP out in the country , but have all my equipment at my regualr house hooked up to my DSL and have a access number that was local for all the residents buy my lake house? What would I have to buy to become an dialup ISP. How many users could my DSL support? What should I get instead of DSL ( a T1?). How much does a T1 cost. What all do I need to become an ISP? Thanks in advanced, Kyle
You cant do dialup with DSL as it isnt a point of presence(aka pop). You would need a t-1, portmaster, extra ips and a radius server to authenticate you users. I would go into detail but im at work and dont have the time. A t-1's price would depend on how far away you are from the CO. The big cost of the line is the local loop charges from the phone company not the bandwidth. But im in michigan and line charges are crazy you may want to call around for pricing.
