When will Microsoft just admit that they failed and design a new operating system?
I hate vista, and everyone I know who has/had it has hated it a hundred times more than I do.
Does anyone here like it?
Do you think Microsoft's extending of XP's lifespan indicates the first step towards the fixing of this horrible mistake by them?
What are your thoughts on it?

XP (pro) was the first MS OS that I've liked. runs stable, no problems. I didn't buy into the Vista hype, and I'm *really* glad not to have upgraded or installed it on any of my systems. Everyone I know that did has had nothing but horror stories about it.

Do you think Vista is destined for the o-so-crowded software graveyard?

Vista is beyond destined. It's dying to get in!
It's going to join the ranks of Windows 3.1

Slightly suprised as Vista is definitely the best I've used. Most cases people who hate it haven't used it long enough or find some problem which probably isn't Microsoft's fault anyway.
In my experience Vista is much more stable. I use to crash infrequently with XP (around once every 2/3 days) and now crash once a month or less with Vista. Vista handles memory better than XP.
The only thing I'm disappointed with is the Ultimate extras.
Looking forward to SP1 as it'll improve on what I already like.

I completely agree.
You just need a half decent PC and its a hell of alot better then XP, Dual core is also a must with vista.

I like Vista, but XP is better. They will soon release a service pack 1 for vista. Hopefully that will fix a lot of the problems. I found a dangerous virus two minutes. Watch out for the network.exe file.

Q6600, 8800GTS, and 1066mhz RAM, I am just totally shocked at how much of that it eats just to run.
I just dont think its worth being so much of a resource hog.
Not yet at least, and I dont foresee it in the immediate future

That's a feature. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...uperfetch.mspx
Basically think of it as this, why waste what you have?

I think you found your issue... you need AT LEAST 2 gb of ram to run vista with all the bells and whistles.
Personally, I've had vista since the end of jan and I'm indifferent to it at this point and mostly work in xp.
Although, I just ordered a laptop (which will be my new *main* machine) and it has vista pre, but I'll install my vista ultimate to it and (hopefully) install pre in a virtual machine.
I've helped people purchase a number of vista computers and so far no issues or complaints. Well, I had one complaint of vista being slow, but they were mad about the dialup they had (no option of getting faster, unless they went back to sat).
The only complaint I have so far is that dazzle has not sent an update, and stated they might not have an update until maybe 2008. Microsoft's fault? No.

When your computer is idle Vista indexes files and other things in the background. You can disable them in the options.
