If the domain WHOIS isn't private, you could have somebody mail a postcard to the address with something written on it only the recipient would know. That should prove that you own the domain.

Legally, though, I can't be of much help .
If you have to operate your company behind the scenes or under a fake name, maybe it's time to leave the industry and start something fresh.

Yeah, your WHOIS information is really the only thing I can think of. However, a lot of organizations use private WHOIS guards (which is really stupid for this exact reason).

or one of contact info contains your info, you may request to domain registrar to push that domain with explanation of disappearing host and so on..

I have saw some thread that host disappeared and client requested domain claim to domain reg.

    hope this helped.

    thanks

When I renew or register a domain name, I always print out the confirmation receipt, and save the confirmation emails.

Buy your domain one place and your hosting at another.

You will never have to worry about it. You will be the owner of the domain clear and simple.

Do it the other way and take your chances.
