    * Jet plane just flew by...

Wow... a jet/war plane (what are they called? ) just flew above my house. The thing was LOUD and SCARY... I've never heard nor seen one before, it was a bit of a shock. At first I thought it was a commercial plane about to hit the ground. In addition, police cars were rushing by with their siren on, so that really got my heart pumping.

The Vancouver Molson-Indy is on, so I guess its got something to do with that.

Sorry, just felt like posting this.

    Thats pretty cool huh =)

My wife and I used to work for various sub contractors of the military and aero space companies and had on many occasions the chance to witness, c130's taking off, f18's flying by, and a whole other gamut of other types of planes, even a blackhawk helicopter base was one of our destinations and man each time I was just in awe.

Truly massively powerful machines and when one is 2000 feet over your head turning the sound is incredible.

Glad you had a chance to witness it =)

A couple months ago I saw three jets flying around and going upside down, it was cool. I also used to see the Concord occasionally, but it doesn't come by any more.

My asumption is that they're flying out of Seattle, not sure how true that is though.

When I was 10 years old I was sitting in the St. Louis airport, waiting to board an Eastern Airlines plane to take us to Atlanta, then to Orlando to go to Disney World.

While sitting there, I looked out over yonder and saw a fighter jet sitting, in the air, about 200 feet off the ground. I tell ya, it's incredible to witness a Harrier in flight! Never in my life since that moment has any other airplane made impressed me.

I spent a lot of time in St. Louis back then, with Mc Donnald Douglas right there I got to see the F18's while being fitted for their first Blue Angel flights, old F4's and F15's used to fly around all the time. F4's are still the meanest looking planes out there.

I can't wait for the JSF to go to production. That is one plane that may impress me to see it live.

I have no idea, but Moffet Field is right next door, even though I think it is closed down now, but let me tell you its freaky when you look outside and there is a jet fighter plane outside your house circling around

I understand completely. I'd forgotten we had an airshow here awhile back and was in my car making a turn just as one of the show fighters flew overhead. The bang was so loud and sudden I thought I'd blown a tire!

My grand father used to work for Rockwell International aka Boeing, and I used to get up in the 5am time when he got off, go with my grand mother to pick him up from work, and sit on the parking lot, just a few hundred feet from the air field...

You could set and watch F15's, F16's, get tested out...

Its amazing to see them push the plans to the max... Sometimes, I'd see them stand the plane on the tail a few hundred feet above the ground and hold it there, then shoot off into the air...

Thats something I loved about Tulsa, you'd see B2 stealth bombers flying around, and differnt war aircraft all the time...

The B52 is invisible to radar, not the human eye...that's why they fly combat missions at night in planes painted black underneath...

Actually it's a pretty funny story why they are painted black...

The designers origanally wanted it painted a dark pastel blue of random shades but, the testers hated it...

Top guns don't want to fly pastel planes...

They want to fly black ones...

No, I think they were CF-18's but I only got a 2 second glimpse through the buildings downtown. They made two passes and were gone.

We get all kinds of planes flying above us.

We have McDill Air Force base about 1 1/2 hours (drive) from here -- in Tampa (home offices of the whole Afghanistan thing). So we get lots of fighter jets, etc flying over us from there.

And we have airliners flying less than 500 feet up in the air -- all the time. We have an airport that's 6 miles from my house -- and we're directly in the flight path.

It was quite freaky at first when we first moved here... But you get use to it.

I have a friend that lives about a 15 minute drive from Newark (NJ) Airport (where one of the planes on Sept 11th came from), and its even worse than that there -- she was especially freaked out after Sept 11th.

When I used to work in the Audio industry one of our favorite venues was directly underneath Hartsfeild (Atlanta, GA) landing pattern.

It was an outdoor venue and the best thing you could see was planes lined up for miles on mile, especially at night it was always a string of lights until the horizon.... Why did we like to see them?..

Becase those planes were our first warning of bad weather... Whenever bad weather would move into the area the lights would disappear about 30 minutes before hand... The Air Traffic controllers would re-route planes away from bad weather. So we always had warning before a storm came, usually enough time to cover all unmovable equipment and batten down the hatches for the rest.

I also used lived approx 5 miles from Dobbins AFB in ATL. It was really cool sometimes just to sit out there and watch these C-130's do touch and go's (touch the runway on landing and take back off again) for hours on end. I've also seen AirForce One land there with it's complete cadre of escort vehicles... Had 2 wingmen and 3 tailing planes along w/ a flurry of choppers around the area doing assorted things, all of them heavily laden w/ death producing devices...

Right after 9-11 Dobbins was a flurry of activity. Any fighter you could imagine was taking off at full speed and doing low alitutude runs over ATL all day and night...

I personally witnessed a car accident due to AF Planes a few weeks ago... Where I live now we have so many AF bases around..

AFB Maxwell, ANGB Dannelly, Gunter, Benning to name the ones I know of (Those are the ones within 100 miles of my house)...

These bases are used for training (I think) most of the time...
I was driving on I-85 and I heard a blistering loud rumble that completely drowned out my music (and I listen to very loud music) and looked up through the windsheild of my car to see 2 Jets (I have no clue what they were, flying way to fast to get a good look) belly to belly, one wing at the ground, one wing skyward, screaming directly over and parallell to the highway, pretty much just goofing off...

I was staring and I'm sure everyone else was too... As I drove on for the next 2 miles I saw 3 pairs of cars on the side of the road that were involved in fender benders... I'm fairly sure as a result of this....

None the less.... As I stated in a previous post... That sound, is the sound of freedom....

It's funny you should mention this actually because about a week ago a big kind of jetty thing flew over very low although the airports very near here it's not normal and it was going the wrong way and also a helicopter flys over like 3 times a week..

Low flying planes are scary like, very very noisy.

I tried with my scanners to see who it was but nut i'm sure there not daft enough to leave such secret flying radio transmission unencrypted.
