Some Feedback-Cluster?
Hi guys,
I just need a bit of feedback,
I currently have a forum, getting around 20-35k uniques per day.
I am currently on a Intel C2D, 4gb Ram, paying around $185/month.
Would setting up a cluster help me reduce the costs or load?
Cluster = 1 server for httpd, 1 server for mysql, 1 server for images?
I'm not too sure, so bear with me

Having a cluster can cut your load and load times but increases costs . I would suggest one server for httpd + lighttpd for images and another server only for mysql .
What are the loads on your present server ? cant it handle your current traffic ? if it can do so effectively , I suggest you continue it unless you expect an increase in server loads and traffic .

A cluster will work in the sense that you'll be splitting the load between the two servers. That said, 35K uniques per day isn't that high so you might want to consider tuning and optimizing your DB & web server configuration first.

I wouldn't call this a cluster. This is simply breaking down your setup into separate functioning servers. As mentioned above pushing the db to another server could give you the best performance, again depends on how much db transaction/load is put on the server.

Only 35k uniques a day and you're thinking of increasing load? At my day job, I run a heavily dynamic site that served up 3 million requests per hour tonight. With a single server.
Up your RAM to 4gb, get someone to fine-tune apache, and you should be set.
