4 nameservers in 4 different dedicated servers

Hello,

I am trying some time now to create 4 nameservers in 4 different dedicated servers (being in different locations and datacenters)

Lets say then we have:

dedicated server 1 - IP for nameserver: 1.1.1.1
dedicated server 2 - IP for nameserver: 2.2.2.2
dedicated server 3 - IP for nameserver: 3.3.3.3
dedicated server 4 - IP for nameserver: 4.4.4.4

I have those 4 dedicated servers with those 4 IPs and i want to set:

ns1.mycompanyhere.com - 1.1.1.1
ns2.mycompanyhere.com - 2.2.2.2
ns3.mycompanyhere.com - 3.3.3.3
ns4.mycompanyhere.com - 4.4.4.4

1) in the resolv.conf of each server what nameservers i put? i add the nameservers of the datacenter i have the server (or even the company i got the dedicated server) or something else? All of resolv.conf in each server must be the same or everyone should be different?

2) i am using bind for my dns servers (FreeBSD). That is in the /etc/namedb/master/mycompanyhere.com

That should be the same in all 4 servers? or i have to change something? Also in all servers much be in the master dir or in the ns2/3/4 must be in the slave dir?

$ttl 38400
@ IN SOA admin.mycompanyhere.com. support.mycompanyhere.com. (

2007060301 ; Serial
3600 ; Refresh after 1 hour
1800 ; Retry after 30 minutes
604800 ; Expire after 1 week
172800 ) ; Minimum TTL of 1 day

; Name Server (NS) records.

IN NS ns1.mycompanyhere.com.
IN NS ns2.mycompanyhere.com.
IN NS ns3.mycompanyhere.com.
IN NS ns4.mycompanyhere.com.

; Mail Exchange (MX) records.

IN MX 10 mail.mycompanyhere.com.

; Address (A) records.

mycompanyhere.com. IN A 1.2.3.4
www IN CNAME mycompanyhere.com.
ftp IN CNAME mycompanyhere.com.
mail IN CNAME mycompanyhere.com.
ns1 IN A 1.1.1.1
ns2 IN A 2.2.2.2
ns3 IN A 3.3.3.3
ns4 IN A 4.4.4.4

3) any changes in the localhost.rev ? please give me example..

4) any changes in the named.conf ? please give me example..

5) and final, lets say i have installed that, and i get a domain to those 4 nameservers. If i add for example A records for that domain in the dedicated server 1, to take effect and be correct i have to do changes in all dedicated servers (which hosts the nameservers) ? or just in one?

Please tell me if you see something wrong.. so as to correct it and also provide the more info you can as i am new in that stuff. i have read handbooks of freebsd etc.. but they dont explain exactly that i am talking about so if you have in mind any good tutorial for such case post it here please.

Thank you.

1. In resolv.conf, add the nameservers of the datacenter,it can be different from each servers, you may also use 127.0.0.1 to use local resolve, but it would be problem if your bind fail

2. You need one server to be master, then all others are slave, the zone files would be anywhere you config at named.conf

3/4. nothing change in localhost.rev and named.conf

5. setup Bind cluster, you just need to update master name server, slave name servers will update automatic.

5) how to setup bind cluster? is there an option in the bind? i have to get other software? can you explain a bit in that?

Really thank you.
