Question

Looking for a reliable hosting provider

Hello,

I am looking for a reliable hosting provider for running a forum based website. I have some basic requirements: PHP and mySQL with good uptime and speed, fast support, bandwidth (min. 60GB/mo). My budget is around $10/month. By the way, I prefer H-Sphere and Helm.

There are 2 companies in my watch list: 1and1 and hostgator. Anyone who has experience with these companies can you post your reviews or give me your advice on other solid companies? Your inputs are greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I think that your requirements are more suitable for Linux Servers while you have posted it in Windows Hosting Forum.

PHP and MySQL will produce much better results in Linux Enviornment.

My 2 cents

I will disagree with you on it. MySQL and PHP runs smoothly on Windows too just need to have proper configurations and administration . We offer Windows as well as Linux but there are many of our customers who are running their heavy traffic PHP websites on windows without any problem from years.

With addition of FastCGI to 2008 IIS7 that should increase performance on Windows also.

If it's between 1 and 1 and HostGator definitely go with HostGator.

No personal experience but 1 & 1 are having many bad reviews from the customers under shared hosting. Support has been terrible in most of the cases.

Research well before you select a host!

All the best...
