Memory usage
Those of you who work with shared hosting, how much memory per customer do you allow for PHP? What about for Ruby on Rails?
Thanks.

Usually you have to allow from 16-32Mb, depending on the server and how many customers you have who need this. The best idea would be to use a php.ini under his /public_html and add there the value, and leave the value in the general php.ini to the default 8Mb(all this if you run phpsuexec, if not use .htaccess).

Global value should always be set low in a shared environment. By this when a user asks for custom increase in the php value, you can identify easily who needs more resource.
