VOB movie file on site?
I need to be able to place a video on a website, but it's in VOB format. There are several files with that extension included with the movie. The movie has an intro where you can choose a from a menu to see various parts of it.
I believe this movie needs to be converted to a diferent format (MPEG3 or 4, or ?) to be used on the site, but haven't done this before. Ideally, I'd like to be able to have it in pieces, so the menu calls separate files allowing it to be downloaded and viewed only if they want that section as opposed to downloading the entire huge movie to see anything at all.
- Can this movie be broken into parts as separate movies or clips?
- What software can do this (I have Nero, which claims to be able to convert, but has nothign about splitting the movie)?
- What format should be used (it's a demo movie for a product)?
I've never worked with movie files of any sort before, so any help you can offer would be most appreciated. Searching the web hasn't produced anything remotely useful, maybe because of incorrect search terms.Your one stop shop for decentralization

You'll have better luck asking on a forum that deals with movies and "ripping dvd's", as the topic you're asking has little/nothing to do with web hosting.
That said, you'll need to transcode the video from the MPEG2 format, assuming you copied it from the DVD correctly (if it was hand-produced on a DVD-R, you're probably fine, if it was commercial, it's probably unusable).
Forget about an interactive menu. You might create a page that has a still image, and use an imagemap or other method, just as with any other graphic image, then hyperlink from the regions to specific chunks.
MPEG2 is not generally supported on most end-user's computers. What format you choose to transcode to depends on your audience. Popular choices include AVI, MP4, DivX, etc. Do you need it to be streaming, or is a static download okay? Streaming will require additional software (on the server) to support this, e.g. RealServer.
The main reason for transcoding is size/quality of the converted product. But again, this is a very different discussion, and better suited to a forum focusing on video conversion, as the local knowledge will be much better for that scope.
