Best international bandwidth

I have a new venture where I'm going to be using a ton of overseas bandwidth. The total bandwidth usage will be in the several GBPS arena. What I'm wondering is who has the best international routes and network?

Please let me know your thoughts and experiences.

by international do you mean europe or asia?
if you mean europe then consider a blend of level3 and telia.
if you mean asia then consider verio and pccw global.

I would say it will be an equal blend of Europe and Asia.

We're in the same situation as you're going to be in very soon. We're pumping out serveral gigabits throughout the world where probably at least 60-70% is "overseas" bandwidth. If you need any suggestions where and how to look for this, just send me a PM and I'll help you out. I've made some good contacts when I was looking for our bandwidth.

The problem is lots of EU providers have XXX pipes going from EU in/out internal peering in EU is great so if you have a pop in EU somewhere your speeds all around EU will be great, but once you leave EU they are going to be degraded. Even bouncing traffic out various tier1 providers we have still find a sweet spot and are ever changing the filters with minimum success.

Find me a great EU provider that doesn't have a clogged pipe across the atlantic and you'll be my hero.

Where's your visitor? If your customer is concentrated in specific country/region, having a POP in said region would help you increase performance, and probably reduce your cost quite a bit. If your content is pretty much static, it's relatively easy to cache all your content in those local servers.

One of Asian co-location providers I checked offered just about $100/month for a minitower including 600+ mbps access to local peering (pretty much all ISPs are in the same building) and only 256kbps international link. If you want more international capacity, you are paying about $50-100/mbps depending on your commitment.

For Europe I would advice Level3 and GBLX. GBLX is very good for South America as well (They have the full ring around the continent).

Asia is probably best reached through Verio (NTT) and BTN (PCCW).

Oddly enough we had better performance through gblx vs btn/pccw global for most of our EU testing.

Global Bandwidth

Telia,, GX, Level 3 are all good EU carriers. Might throw Tiscali in there.

I agree GX is also good in S. America.

Verio + PCCW are strong to Asia.

Level 3 and GX are popular choices due to their strong presence in the US. Few International carriers have such an extensive footprint in both the US and Europe. For Asia, there are some alternatives to NTT/Verio and PCCW. PM me if you would like to discuss further.

If you're pushing major traffic, it might be worthwhile leasing your own fiber across the Atlantic.

heh, just pushing under 1Gbps.. not really so major. If it costs 3k/month for a loop between reston and ashburn here only god knows what it would run to run the atlantic. jump on wave and go!

I recently started talking with Transworld Internet Exchange and am considering them for a client. They have Pops and peering on every continent. (unified colo pricing) They said they have a 10G wave to asia and are carving out bandwidth there and to EU with a new combined layer2(point to point) and layer3 Transit product and utilize a propriatry signature based routing protocal wich gives an SLA to Asia of like 175 ms... anyone heard of this? PM me if you want to know more..
